Movie Review 3/15 - Alice In Wonderland

Alice In Wonderland

What I Liked: I hate critics. Not them personally but the profession. I honestly think anyone who bases what they watch on what someone else thinks should not be watching movies. 'Alice' currently has a 53% on RottenTomatoes.com meaning only half of the critics liked it (Good Reviews: 93, Bad 84). I'm saying all this to say, don't always listen to critics. Always see a movie for yourself. Oh wait. I'm supposed to review this movie....I loved it. Everything I had hoped it would be. Around the middle of the film, I realized I didn't want it to end. Which is too bad because a sequel is never going to happen. Instead of doing the obvious thing and just doing a modern retelling of 'Alice', Burton does a sequel to it which turned out to be one of the reasons I loved it. It had all the references from the old story we all know and but it also got to go wherever it wanted with this film. Oh and not that this needs to be said but Johnny Depp is as awesome as he usually is. And this actress I've never seen before, Mia Wasikowska, is just great as Alice. Now, I saw this in IMAX 3D which is how I recommend you see it. The whole movie fantastically weird. Just really fun.

What I Didn't Like: It had to end? Can I say that? Guess not. Well for a while in the middle, the movie kind of fizzles out for a bit but picks up.

Score: 9/10

Through The Eyes of a Princess: The Princess and the Frog Review

This review was written by 10 year old Eden Smith.  She attended an exclusive sneak peak of the film and these are her thoughts.

This is brand new and created for girls like me.

I'm a princess. Everyone that knows me, knows that. I mean not just in mind, but in tiara... I've won a few pageants and so I never needed Disney to tell me that. But I am glad they did. Or kinda...
I went to the exclusive screening of The Princess and The Frog Disney Extravaganza in New York City at the historic Zeigfield Theatre and the Roseland Ballroom during the Thanksgiving Holiday. The sneak peak of the movie afforded me the royal treatment that all princesses of privilege get.
The movie was amazing. I had to get really dressed up for this. It was history you know. Disney has never had a real Black princess... well there was the Brandy version of Cinderella but that was still Cinderella. This is brand new and created for girls like me.
I am not about to tell you all the things that people are talking about. I am just going tell about the things I think are cool about the movie.
I liked that from the moment I stepped on the carpet the little kids were like, "Look there she is the princess!" And I was happy to say "Yes, lovely I am the princess!"
        I liked the movie because...

Precious in Theaters Today

We all remember being in junior high school and sneaking to read certain books we know we weren't supposed to read.  PUSH, in my mind, was always one of those books, but after reading it, it was more than just a book with "nasty stuff and curse words" its a book about struggle, growth, transformation and hope.

Well, the wait is over, the movie entitled Precious is out in theaters today.

Coco Chanel Biopic

“I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny. And it's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.”
-Coco Chanel

The above quote is one of my favorite quotes from Coco--well, one of the MANY. The trailer for the first biopic of Coco Avant Chanel will be released in France on April 22nd. The US release date is still undecided. I am looking forward to the release of this film. I find not only her talent but her life, and even her quotes to be amazingly inspirational, a testament to what one can achieve if you put your mind to it.
